Visitors to Woodland View can now get quick and easy access to information on keeping healthy with the opening of the new Better Health Hub. The drop-in service is now available at the entrance of Woodland View, Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine.
The Better Health Hub supports patients, carers, staff, volunteers and people from the local community to live healthier lives. The Public Health Department, in partnership with mental health services, will run the hub every Tuesday from 10am to 4pm and every Friday from 10am to 1pm. Why not drop in to speak to our friendly staff?
Elaine Young, Assistant Director of Public Health, commented: “There are many things that can affect our health and wellbeing but sometimes it can be difficult to know where to get the right help or accurate information. The Better Health Hub aims to support people to live healthier lives. Our staff will listen, help and support people to take positive steps to better health and wellbeing. They can also help people to get in touch with organisations in the community that can offer more support.”
The Better Health Hub is a drop in service. However, it also offers support over the telephone or by email. The service offers a friendly confidential place where there is time for you to ask questions and get support and information on a wide range of matters that can impact on health – for example, managing stress and health living, smoking cessation, money worries, living with health conditions and local activities or groups.
One previous service user told us: “They were very understanding, non-judgemental and provided me with a number of options to deal with my debt…I reduced my outgoings significantly and used much of the advice provided…It took me from a very dark place and reintroduced a calmness to my life for which I am eternally grateful.”
Elaine Young adds: “It is great to see the Better Health Hub service grow and be in a position to open in this new location. It is important that services like this are as accessible as possible to everyone in Ayrshire and Arran. We look forward to welcoming people from the local area to the Hub as well as patients and their families, staff and visitors.”
